Who We Are
Aeris Therapeutics, Inc. is an emerging medical therapeutics company dedicated to the development and commercialization of innovative therapies that improve the lives of patients with emphysema and other advanced lung diseases. We pursue this mission by maintaining our commitment to scientific excellence and the highest quality standards. Our company possesses a fundamental core competence in pulmonary medicine with substantial internal capabilities in basic sciences, preclinical and clinical research, drug delivery, product development, and regulatory affairs.
Aeris’ research and product development efforts currently encompass the areas of interventional pulmonology and targeted delivery of drugs and biologics. The company’s lead product, the Biologic Lung Volume Reduction (BLVR) System, is currently under clinical investigation. The BLVR System is designed to provide a minimally invasive treatment alternative for patients with advanced emphysema who currently have limited treatment options.
Founded in 2000, Aeris Therapeutics Inc. is privately held, with corporate offices in Woburn, MA.
Management Team
David Dove, M.D., MBA
President and Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Dove has extensive experience in healthcare and in the management of emerging life science companies. Prior to joining Aeris, Dr. Dove was the President and CEO of Celadon Science, Inc. (now Advanced Biohealing Inc.), a biotechnology company focused on skin and wound healing. Dr. Dove also served as the President and CEO of TEI Biosciences, a regenerative medicine company, and as Chief Operating Officer of Immunotherapy, Inc., a biotechnology company developing novel treatments for cancer. Dr. Dove received an M.D. degree from New York University and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Washington. He holds an M.B.A. from the Haas School of Business at Berkeley and a Bachelor of Arts in Cell Biology from Middlebury College.
Edward Ingenito, M.D., PhD
Founder, Chief Scientific Office, Medical Director
Dr. Ingenito is a recognized expert in pulmonary physiology and lung volume reduction and is the inventor of the Biologic Lung Volume Reduction System. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and is the holder of several important patents. Prior to founding Aeris, he was Associate Professor in the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and was Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Ingenito is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. He received an M.D. degree from Harvard Medical School and BS and PhD in medical engineering and medical physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
J. David Bernardy, J.D.
Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Research and Compliance
Mr. Bernardy has over 25 years of experience in regulatory affairs, clinical research and quality assurance. Prior to joining Aeris, he was Vice President of Regulatory Affairs & Quality Assurance at Praecis Pharmaceuticals. He previously served as the Director of Regulatory Affairs & Quality Assurance at AutoImmune, BioSurface Technology (now part of Genzyme Biosurgery), and Diatech (now part of Bayer Schering Pharma). He began his career leading regulatory affairs, clinical research & compliance at NEN/DuPont Merck, now Lantheus Medical Imaging. Mr. Bernardy received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Minnesota and his J.D. from the Franklin Pierce Law Center.
Kathleen Dennis, MBA
Vice President of Operations
Ms. Dennis has more than 18 years experience in Operations, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs and has held positions of increasing responsibility with a variety of medical technology companies, including Boston Scientific Corporation, Thoratec Corporation (formally Thermo Cardiosystems, Inc.) and OmniSonics Medical Technologies, Inc. She received her MBA from Babson College and her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University.
Alexander Schwarz, PhD
Vice President of Development
Dr. Schwarz is experienced in the development of medical devices and drugs, with particular expertise in polymer chemistry. He has published extensively and holds numerous patents in the field. Prior to joining Aeris, Dr. Schwarz was founder and Chief Technical Officer of Pluromed, Inc., a start-up medical device company. He has held various positions in industry over a 15 year period, including Biosphere Medical, Inc, Baxter Healthcare, Inc., and BioSepra, Inc. He received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Bonn, Germany.
Andrew Littlehale, MBA
Senior Director of Finance and Administration
Mr. Littlehale brings ten years of experience leading the financial and operational development of life science companies through various stages of development. Prior to joining Aeris, Mr. Littlehale served as the Finance Director of SeraCare Life Sciences, Inc. and Controller of Genomics Collaborative Inc. before its acquisition by SeraCare. Mr. Littlehale has a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Wheaton College and an MBA from Suffolk University.
Larry Tsai, MD
Senior Director of Research
Dr. Tsai oversees the company’s non-clinical research and he also actively participates in the company’s clinical research programs. Dr. Tsai is board certified in pulmonary and critical care medicine and is also an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He received his MD from Harvard Medical School where he was enrolled in the Harvard-Massachusetts Institute of Technology Health Sciences and Technology program, and his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Stanford University.
